The site bears great\nhistorical significance to the state of Maryland and America as the home\nof&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/charlescarrollhouse.org\/the-carrolls\/the-settler\">Charles Carroll the\nSettler<\/a>, first Attorney General of Maryland, his son,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/charlescarrollhouse.org\/the-carrolls\/of-annapolis\">Charles Carroll of\nAnnapolis<\/a>&nbsp;and his grandson,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/charlescarrollhouse.org\/the-carrolls\/personal-biography\/personal-biography\">Charles Carroll of\nCarrollton<\/a>(1737-1832).&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Carrolls were among the most prominent\nCatholics in the English colonies and the early United States.&nbsp; One\ncousin, John Carroll, was the first Catholic bishop in the United States,\nhaving been named first Bishop of Baltimore in 1789.&nbsp; The property\u2019s\nCatholic connections were renewed in 1852 when it was conveyed to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/charlescarrollhouse.org\/house-garden\/house-history-redemptorist-era\">Redemptorists<\/a>&nbsp;who used it as their novitiate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Carroll House offers unparalleled views of\nthe water from one of the most intact 18th century garden designs in the\nChesapeake region.&nbsp; In addition to the house itself, the garden contains\nthree terraces and falls, as well as a seawall and large boxwood allees.&nbsp;\nA reflection of the Carroll wealth and success, it stands as a monument to\ntheir success as Catholic Americans.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":503,"parent":0,"template":"","businesses_cat":[6,39],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.intermap.pro\/annapolis\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/business\/501"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.intermap.pro\/annapolis\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/business"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.intermap.pro\/annapolis\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/business"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.intermap.pro\/annapolis\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/503"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.intermap.pro\/annapolis\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=501"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"businesses_cat","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.intermap.pro\/annapolis\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/businesses_cat?post=501"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
