Carefully restored by Historic\nAnnapolis beginning in 1965, today it is recognized as one of the finest 18<sup>th<\/sup>-century\nhomes in the country and a National Historic Landmark. Guided tours of the\nhouse, which features period furnishings and paintings, reveal the inner\nworkings of an upper-class household in colonial and revolutionary Annapolis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Painstakingly restored to its original splendor\nusing details drawn from historic artwork and archaeological excavations, the\ntwo-acre colonial&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.annapolis.org\/contact\/william-paca-garden\">William Paca Garden<\/a>&nbsp;is a picturesque retreat\nfrom the bustle of the city. Visitors can view native and heirloom plants while\nexploring the terraced landscape\u2019s formal Parterres, naturalistic Wilderness,\nand practical Kitchen garden. The charming Summerhouse beckons guests to cross\nthe latticework bridge over a fish-shaped pond. The garden frequently hosts\nweddings, receptions, and other special events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Concerned that developers might tear down the home\nof a Signer of the Declaration of Independence, Historic Annapolis and the\nState of Maryland bought the Paca mansion and the rest of the Carvel Hall site\nin 1965. Over the next decade, a team of experts\u2014archival researchers,\narchaeologists, architectural historians, paint analysts, x-ray photographers,\ncarpenters, masons, landscape designers, horticulturists, and other skilled\nprofessionals\u2014restored the William Paca House and Garden to their 18th-century\nappearances.
